In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, promote the excellent Chinese culture, enhance the communication power and influence of Chinese civilization, tell Chinese stories and spread Chinese voices, on the afternoon of December 27, the launching ceremony of the fourth “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” Wuxi Station was held in the Junjin Lecture Hall of the School of Foreign Studies.
Qian Yueshuang, Vice Secretary of the Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, Wei Zhenji, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of Jiangnan University, Yu Lifeng, Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs of Jiangnan University, Liu Boxian, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Studies of Jiangnan University and Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, Wang Bin, President of New Channel International Education (Wuxi), as well as the organizers, guiding units, co-organizers of the “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” event, representatives from other universities, primary and secondary schools in Wuxi, and reporters were among the leaders and guests that attended this ceremony. And Yang Jingtong was the event host.
The “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” event is a humanistic comprehensive literacy activity jointly organized by the China Institute for Innovation & Development Strategy and the China Education Television New Channel International Education Group. This activity aims to provide a platform for young people to communicate with the world, enabling them to better promote excellent Chinese culture, inherit patriotism, strengthen cultural confidence, and present more real, three-dimensional, and comprehensive Chinese stories vividly to the global audience.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Yu Lifeng delivered a speech. He pointed out that language is the best key to understanding a country. On the stage of the “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge”, students can express their love for Chinese culture, build bridges for cultural exchange, and showcase a trustworthy, lovely, and respectable image of China through a series of real stories. Then, Wang Bin gave a speech and emphasized that young students should hone their skills, continuously grow to demonstrate international competence and responsibility, and write a new chapter in language cooperation and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
Next, the fourth “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” Wuxi Station appointment ceremony and flag-giving ceremony was held. Wei Zhenji, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of Jiangnan University, presented appointment letters to four professors: Gu Qiyi, Yang Yong, Wu Xinxin, and Yuan Xuesheng. Zhang Linhua, Director of Youth Development Department of the Wuxi Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, took the stage to present flags and books to student representatives of Jiangnan University.
At the end of the event, five leaders and guests, including Qian Yueshuang, Wei Zhenji, Yu Lifeng, Gu Qiyi, and Wang Bin, stepped onto the stage and placed their right hands on the starting pillar to count down, jointly launching the fourth “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” event.
At this point, the launch ceremony of the fourth “Stories of China Retold in English Challenge” Wuxi Station had come to a successful end. Our school will always uphold the purpose of promoting excellent Chinese culture, strengthening bilingual communication and interpretation abilities, and establishing confidence in Chinese culture.
